HERC Lunchtime Research Seminar:
Thoughts on Pedagogical Research: Scholar-teacher or Teacher-scholar?
Led by Ronald Barnett, Emeritus Professor of Higher Education, University of London
Friday, 11 October 2013, 12.30pm-2pm.
Join us for the first of three HERC seminars this year. You are welcome to bring your own lunch and we will provide tea, coffee and water.
We welcome Emeritus Professor Ron Barnett who will provide an overview and discussion on what kinds of research lecturers might do to improve teaching and learning in HE. Inevitably, Ron will focus on issues related to the vision he has for HE which are conveyed in his various books, the most recent of which is Imagining the University, published by Routledge in January 2013. But he will also encourage you to consider your own ideas for research and touch on developing your identity as an educator and as a subject expert, and how the two might be balanced in today’s HE.
Understandably, academics often become anxious when expected/ told that they have to undertake research, but Ron will endeavour to dispel this anxiety by just suggesting that there are many ways of conducting research that don’t involve massive and complex fieldwork and grants of £500,000.
